چکیده

This paper presents a monolithic optical detector, consisting of an integrated photodiode and a pre-amplifier in a standard 0.18μm CMOS technology. 3Gb/s data-rate was achieved at λ=850nm with an average optical power of 25 μW and BER10. This data-rate is over half an order of magnitude higher than that of current state-of-the-art optical detectors in standard CMOS. High speed operation is achieved without reducing circuit responsivity by using an inherently robust analog equalizer that compensates (in gain and phase) for the photodiode roll-off in the range from 1 MHz to 1 GHz. The presented solution is applicable to various photodiode structures, wavelengths and

A fully-integrated 12.5-Gb/s 850-nm CMOS optical receiver based on a spatially-modulated avalanche photodetector.

We present a fully integrated 12.5-Gb/s optical receiver fabricated with standard 0.13-µm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology for 850-nm optical interconnect applications. Our integrated optical receiver includes a newly proposed CMOS-compatible spatially-modulated avalanche photodetector, which provides larger photodetection bandwidth than previously reported CMOS-compati...

6.25-Gb/s Optical Receiver Using A CMOS-Compatible Si Avalanche Photodetector

An optical receiver using a CMOS-compatible avalanche photodetector (CMOS-APD) is demonstrated. The CMOS-APD is fabricated with 0.18 μm standard CMOS technology and the optical receiver is implemented by using the CMOS-APD and a transimpedance amplifier on a board. The optical receiver can detect 6.25-Gb/s data with the help of the series inductive peaking effect.

A 1.1-Gb/s 115-pJ/bit Configurable MIMO Detector Using 0.13- μm CMOS Technology

This brief presents an efficient and configurable multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) signal detector design solution and its high-speed IC implementation. This detector can support 2 × 2/3 × 3/4 × 4 MIMO and quadratic phase-shift keying/16-state quadratic amplitude modulation (QAM)/64-state QAM modulation configurations. The detection algorithm employs an early-pruned technique that can redu...

Design of Multi Gb/s Monolithically Integrated Photodiodes and Multi-Stage Transimpedance Amplifiers in Thin-Film SOI CMOS Technology

The development of new integrated high-speed Si receivers is requested for short distance optical data link and emerging optical storage (OS) systems, notably for the Gb/s Ethernet standard [1] [8] and Blue DVD (Blu-Ray, HDDVD) [3], [4], [9]. As requirements on band‐ width, gain, power consumption as well as low read-out noise and cost are quite severe, an optimal design strategy of a monolithi...

Low Power 0.18um CMOS Phase Frequency Detector

In this paper, the performance of two low power phase frequency detectors is compared. A modified D-FF based PFD reduces the power consumption of traditional PFD to 4.732uW at 40MHz clock frequency and dead zone to 40ps.It is suitable for low power applications. A Falling Edge PFD uses only 12 transistors. This PFD operates up to 1GHz at 1.8V supply voltage. It consumes only 5.5uW when operatin...
